Dear Spartans,
As the beginning of a new year approaches, I find myself taking stock of the many ways in which we have taken Giant Steps forward during 2017. Our academic performance is strong and our students are thriving; our research is award-winning and impactful; our athletic achievements are reaching new heights and setting new standards; and our campus itself is growing and forging deeper connections with our community.
Spartans have much to celebrate, to be thankful for and to look forward to this holiday season. I am proud to lead a university with dedicated staff and faculty who are committed to making UNCG the best it can be. I am appreciative to work with colleagues who care not only about their daily tasks but also about each other. And I am optimistic and excited to see what 2018 has in store.
There are many more Giant Steps for us to take together. For now, though, let’s take a moment to reflect and be grateful, to celebrate together with a smile, some joy, and the sounds of the season. I hope you enjoy singing and playing along with our world-class UNCG Miles Davis Jazz Studies Program students, led by Professor Steve Haines, as much as I did.
On behalf of Jacquie and our family, I wish you a joyous holiday season and a wonderful New Year.
Go Spartans!
Chancellor Franklin D. Gilliam, Jr.
