Update on HB2 (campus community)

Posted on April 08, 2017

Campus Community,

Late Friday afternoon, federal district court Judge Thomas D. Schroeder granted the Carcaño plaintiffs’ motion for a preliminary injunction against enforcement of HB2’s restroom provision on UNC campuses.

As the legal challenges to HB2 continue to make their way through the legal system, we will continue to monitor the situation and keep you informed as developments arise. We have consistently maintained that HB2 does not change our existing equal opportunity and nondiscrimination policies. We are committed to protecting our Spartan community from discrimination on the basis of age, color, disability, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation or veteran status.

Respect and tolerance are among the most important values that define what it means to be a Spartan. I encourage everyone to be mindful of this as we begin a new academic year. Remember, we have a shared fate – we are ALL in this together.
