Statement from the Chancellor

Campus Community:

I want to reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that students, faculty, and staff have the right to gather in peaceful protest on the UNCG campus. I am proud of the way the university community has continued to engage in meaningful and thoughtful dialogue about the challenging and sensitive issues facing our country. Respect, understanding, and empathy are key to building and maintaining a healthy democracy. As a social scientist and an African American man, I am acutely aware of the concerns expressed by many voices across the country. As I have said many times, we have a “shared fate” – as Spartans, Americans, and citizens of the world. Let us continue to come together to work towards meaningful solutions.
