UNC System Strategic Plan (faculty and staff)

Posted on April 08, 2017

As you all know, General Administration is facilitating the Board of Governors’ process for developing a new strategic plan for the UNC system. The current five thematic areas of focus are 1) Access, 2) Student Success, 3) Affordability and Efficiency, 4) Excellent and Diverse Institutions, and 5) Economic Impact. For more information on the overall process and the evolution of these themes in particular, please visit https://www.northcarolina.edu/strategic-planning.

Opportunities for Input

Similar to the process used on our campus to solicit feedback early in the process of creating our new plan, GA has created multiple methods for University students, faculty, staff, and alumni to provide input related to the system-wide plan. There are two opportunities for you to contribute your thoughts over the next several weeks:

  1. An online survey to solicit feedback on the definitions of and priorities associated with the 5 themes has recently been launched. Please note that this is distinct from the survey that was recently distributed regarding strategies for promoting student success; the current survey takes a broader view by including general questions about all 5 themes currently included in the plan. Instructions from General Administration for completing the survey are found below.
  2. An open forum will be held on October 25th from 4-6pm in the EUC Auditorium. This forum will include a brief presentation on the elements of the UNC system plan, followed by an opportunity for audience members to share feedback. GA has clearly communicated that this is not intended to be a question-and-answer session, but rather an opportunity for members of our community to provide feedback to GA staff and representatives of the Board of Governors.

We encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities to share ideas, concerns, and perspectives from our campus. If you have any questions regarding this email, please contact Julia Jackson-Newsom at [email protected].

Message from General Administration:

“The Board of Governors of the University of the North Carolina (UNC) system is in the process of developing a strategic plan that will guide decision making in the years ahead.
The strategic plan is centered around the following five themes: access; student success; affordability and efficiency; excellent and diverse institutions; and economic impact. For additional information on these themes, as well as information regarding the overall process, please visit the UNC Strategic Planning website at https://www.northcarolina.edu/strategic-planning.

For any strategic plan to be meaningful and successful, it is essential to understand the perspectives of as many individuals and constituencies as possible. Therefore, we would appreciate it if you would provide feedback to the Board of Governors. UNC General Administration, in consultation with the UNC Faculty Assembly, has developed a survey organized around the five themes mentioned above as one mechanism with which to engage campus and community stakeholders.

A link to the survey can be found below, as well as on the Strategic Planning website:

Please be assured that all responses received will be confidential and given careful consideration as the planning process moves forward.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete this survey. Your feedback is critical to the success of our strategic plan.”
