Upcoming UNC System Employee Engagement Survey

Posted on March 23, 2022

The University of North Carolina is committed to providing a quality work environment so that all employees of the University can be successful in serving our students and the State of North Carolina.

Toward this goal, the University of North Carolina System will launch the third iteration of its system-wide employee engagement survey project on March 28. The most recent survey was conducted in February 2020. The 2022 survey will be shorter than previous versions and will focus on three specific areas: a set of baseline trend data from past surveys, diversity and inclusion statements, and statements specific to institutional actions taken due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Data from previous surveys in 2018 and 2020 were shared with the UNC Board of Governors and posted publicly on the System’s website. The data is used to track human resource metrics such as turnover data; and supports longer term policy efforts and programmatic changes, such as the introduction of paid parental leave and enhancements to University benefit programs where possible.

As in prior years the survey will be conducted by ModernThink LLC, an independent research and consulting firm that specializes in higher education climate assessment. On March 28, the online survey will be distributed to our permanent full-time faculty and staff. You will receive an email invitation directly from ModernThink with details about the survey and how to log on. You will receive a unique login and password that only you can use to participate in the survey. The survey takes about 20 minutes to complete (you may use work time). This is a significant endeavor and deserves our full support.

Survey participation is voluntary and completely confidential. Only ModernThink will have access to individual employee responses so that results cannot be connected back to individuals. You can find more information about survey confidentiality on our website. You may also contact ModernThink directly at 888.684.4658 or at [email protected] to address any concerns regarding the survey.

This is a valuable opportunity to make your voice heard. Because a high response rate helps to ensure an accurate representation of our community, please also encourage your colleagues to complete the survey.
