Dear Faculty and Staff,

Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to rapidly transform industries, including higher education. At UNCG, we are exploring how best to harness this technology in enhancing administrative efficiency, research and creative activities, and improving teaching and learning. The goal is not to replace human intelligence, but to enrich human creativity and problem-solving. Our university must adopt a more unified and strategic approach to mitigate risks and ensure wise investment of resources. These are critical steps toward the responsible and sustainable integration of AI at UNCG.

To that end, I am pleased to share that UNCG has established a new AI Oversight Committee. This committee is charged with providing strategic guidance and oversight as UNCG moves forward in embracing, engaging with, and empowering the use of AI in learning, academic integrity, professional development, and operational efficiency.

The committee will develop strategic recommendations and resources including:

The Committee consists of a representative from each campus division and will be chaired by Casey Forrest, Associate Vice Chancellor for Enterprise Technology Infrastructure and Chief Technology Officer.

The Committee encourages all students, faculty, and staff to continue exploring AI tools and solutions where they improve customer service, operational efficiency, research, and student success. To ensure transparency and alignment with university policies and best practices, we ask that any AI-related events, tools, resources, training, and guidance be shared with the committee for advisement.

We welcome your input and questions. Please feel free to contact Casey Forrest at cjforrest@uncg.edu. More detailed information about the Committee and the AI Hub Website will be shared in this week’s Campus Weekly.
